A new face has arrived in Heywood and he is ready for patients.
Heywood Rural Health has welcomed Dr Mohamed Almohamed to their team as a general practitioner in February 2026.
Originally from Syria, Dr Mohamed has worked as a general practitioner for 20 plus years across his home country, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and now Australia.
It was in UAE he did the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners exam.
And he can speak several languages including Russian, having lived and studied in the country for some time.
Dr Mohamed arrived in Heywood with his wife and three children and said he couldn’t be happier with their move.
“I like the relaxed and quiet atmosphere; I don’t like the crowds and traffic. That’s why I like it here,” he said.
“When I spoke to management at HRH, at my first interview and second interview…. I had that feeling that this is the place I want to go.
“I’m enjoying the company here, the staff are very helpful and supportive.
“The quality of the care for patients is really good, especially in this small area.
“Everything is available here for testing. Blood testing, blood pressure and even for females, cervical check-ups. I didn’t imagine that I’d find everything here.
His hours run from 9am – 5pm, weekdays, and he is now one of four general practitioners and a fifth arriving next month at the Health Service Medical Clinic.
Although a general practitioner, Dr Mohamed does have a particular interest in paediatrics and dermatology.
Since starting at HRH, he has been tending to 10 to 12 patients a day but still has room to care for more.
Outside of work environment, Dr Mohamed said he and his family have been sinking into the community life.
“My kids are attending the primary school in Heywood and they like it very much,” he said.
“It’s a really nice community here”.
