NAIDOC Week is a great opportunity for everyone in our community to learn about and celebrate the oldest continuing cultures on earth: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It’s an opportunity to connect with and give recognition to the histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the important role they play in Australia’s story.
Our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and our loved ones.
On 6th July 2023 we held our NAIDOC celebration event at HRH on Gunditjmara country. We would like to thank the many people that braved the weather and came along to share their stories, wisdom and history as we celebrated the legacy and importance of our Elders and the culture and achievements of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Thank-you to Aunty Janice Lovett and Rhani for your Welcome to Country, Troy Lovett for the smoking ceremony, the Koondoom Yarkeen Karweeyn Aboriginal Dance group for their deadly performance which shared stories through dance with everyone that attended the celebration.
